Reach visitors as they travel to the Keweenaw

Promoting the Keweenaw since 1990.

  • THE CONTENT

Each article in the Traveler informs our visitors how they can best experience the Keweenaw. Whether it's a hike in the Estivant Pines or to Hungarian Falls, a guide to Isle Royale or fall color tours, or a tale from our rich storied past, each article captures the sense of history, natural beauty, ecology, and activities that make the Keweenaw a traveler’s destination.

  • THE BACKERS

The Traveler is supported by the small businesses of the Keweenaw. This mutually beneficial relationship results in advertising and information working together to serve the visitor. In addition to promoting your product or service, partnering with the Keweenaw Traveler underwrites our mission to promote and protect the history, ecology, and access the Keweenaw provides.

  • THE REACH

The Traveler reaches out of the area to promote the Keweenaw. The guide is strategically distributed to MDOT Welcome Centers in Clare, Mackinaw City, St. Ignace, Marquette, Iron Mountain and Ironwood as well as tourism centers in Ashland, Duluth, and Green Bay. This regional distribution promotes the Keweenaw to tourists before they arrive, improving their vacation experience with information on the best our area has to offer. Our total press run is over 25,000 copies from June to October.

  • THE FORMAT

A magazine printed on newsprint is a bit of a throwback format compared to live-streams and social media content, but it is an important part of our success. Unlike more expensive glossy publications, newsprint allows us to have a large distribution on a monthly basis. Instead of online media driven by mysterious algorithms, our physical paper full of information specific to where they are in real time is immediately relevant to the visitor of an unfamiliar place. The Keweenaw Traveler offers a simple solution to a common question, “What is there to do here?”

  • THE TIMING

The Traveler is published four times throughout the summer and fall, from June to October. The timeliness provides current seasonal information for the visitors. In contrast to a guide that is produced once a year, our format meets the visitor where they are, in the season they are in.
